Israelis defend abduction of Palestinian engineer Dirar Abu Sisi

PressTV - Israelis defend abduction of Palestinian engineer:

Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:46PM
Ibrahim Husseini, Press TV, al-Quds

"In an Israeli court, Dirar Abu Sisi, a Palestinian engineer announced that he has been abducted by Israeli secret service operative on a baseless accusation.

Earlier Dirar's family as well as Human Rights groups had accused Israel of abducting him about 40 days ago. Abu Sisi went missing on a train traveling from Kharkov to Kiev on February 19 and later it was revealed that he was held in Israeli custody in Ashkelon.

The German weekly, Der Spiegel, claimed that the engineer, who worked at Gaza's central power plant, had information about the captive Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit.

Relatives of Abu Sisi, deny that he is an activist. They also deny claims that he has information about the abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Abu Sisi's attorney said that this courts session was a reprimand hearing and that the state prosecutor will press charges next week.

In an interview with Israel Radio, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that Abu Sisi has useful information about Hamas which justifies the arrest, even if it does not concern Shalit,

PA envoy in Ukraine has described the abduction of Dirar Abu Sisi as s a 'terrible act of piracy', and urged Ukrainian authorities to put pressure on Israel to ensure his safe return to Ukraine.

Analysts say, the abduction of Dirar Abu Sisi may very well be a pressure tactic employed by Israel on Hamas in order to bring about the release of Gilad Shalit. Foreign media reports have implied that the abduction of Abu sisi is motivated by the assumption that he has information on the whereabouts of Shalit, however, Abu sisi says he has been interrogated about other issues, not about Shalit.

Palestinians rally to mark Land Day - Press TV Report from Arabeh

PressTV - Palestinians rally to mark Land Day:

Thu Mar 31, 2011 12:21AM
Rana kamal, Press TV, Arrabah

"Palestinians from all around the occupied territory wave their flags high marking the 35th anniversary of Land Day in Palestine. As they march to tribute those who lost their lives in the struggle to hold on to their land and identity, Palestinians chanted “Our soul and our blood is for Palestine”.

Land day was first marked on March 30 1967 in response to the Israeli announcement of a Plan to expropriate hundreds of acres of land for security and settlement purposes. Thousands of Palestinian demonstrated. Six Arab citizens were killed, hundreds wounded, and hundreds more arrested. Every year Palestinians march in the memory of those who scarified their lives for Palestine.

Palestinians also demonstrated Land Day in East Jerusalem AlQuds and the West bank territory. But the heart of the land day is in the north of Palestine.

We are in the Arab Israeli Town Arrabah. Thousands of Palestinians from all around the occupied territory came to commemorate Land Day in Arabah in Palestine.

Palestinians say the recent uprising and revolutions in the Arab World makes this day even more special and hopeful towards a free and independent Palestinian state.

Last year as well, acres of Land were confiscated by Israel from Palestinian land. However, Palestinians say they will continue to demonstrate and fight for the land they believe has always belonged to them.

Israeli soldiers harassment of Palestinian Farmers and Bedouins continue in the Jordan Vally

Army continue to harass Palestinian farmers in the Jordan Valley
Source: International Solidarity Movement (ISM)

31 March 2011 | Jordan Valley Solidarity

Milk poured over the floor of the store room
Yaser and his family (including 8 children) have been living during the spring time in Kherbet Samra, Jordan Valley, since 2006. At 8.30 pm yesterday evening the Israeli army came to his home claiming to be looking for terrorists from Nablus who they said they knew were staying with him. Despite his insistence that only his family were there, they made everyone leave the tents and requested to see the ID papers of all of the family, including his terrified young children.

On the request of the army the family produced their IDs. All the IDs showed that they were related and none of the IDs produced were Nablus IDs. The army refused to say why they believed that people from Nablus were staying with the family. For some time the family were made to stand while the army decided what to do.

The army then claimed that they believed that the family were hiding guns in their tents. They made their way straight to where the children slept and ransacked their tent emptying all the clothes onto the floor. After failing to find any guns they went to the milk store and poured the contents of the milk vessels onto the floor and mixed it with sugar.

Yaser and his family keep goats. They use their milk to drink, to make cheese for them to eat and then sell what is left in Hebron. The milk from the family’s goats is their only form of income. That morning all of the goats had been milked and their full store (60 litres) was destroyed. At no point did the army show any documents which proved the search was legal as well as speaking in Hebrew the whole time so that the family were unable to understand what was happening. After destroying the families livelihood they left. In total the army remained at the family’s home for one and a half hours whilst the family were made to watch as their home was turned upside down and their way of generating income to support them destroyed. This is just one case of harassment of local Palestinian farmers in the Jordan Valley by the Israeli army. The constant harassment is part of a deliberate policy to make life so difficult for Palestinian families that they leave the valley, whilst at the same time the Israeli state continues to build new settlement homes for Israeli citizens to expand their agricultural development. This colonisation of the valley by Israel is destroying the lives of Palestinians that have lived here for generations.

Protest against Shimon Peres at Chatham House - London 30 03 2011

Shimon_Peres_at_Chatham_House_Protest_30032011.avi:

"MrAlexSeymour on Mar 30, 2011

A war criminal, a most appropriate president for the criminal state of Israel was somehow allowed to attend a Zionist rebranding exercise at Chatham House in London today. Difficult to imagine how this person - who murdered scores of civilians under UN protection in Lebanon, who was instrumental in Israel's acquisition by stealth of its amoury of WMDs and who in addition engineered together with Ben Gurion the initial ethnic cleansing of Palestine - difficult to imagine how he was able to freely visit the UK and speak at a prestigious conference venue without hinderance or intervention from the CID, MI5 and the special branch. Obviously the answer lies in the everpresent insidious influence of the Zionist Lobby with its poisonous tentacles manipulating the Friends of Israel moles in both the government and in the opposition.

Palestinians commemorate Land Day in Gaza

PressTV - Palestinians commemorate Land Day in Gaza:

Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:20PM
Ashraf Shannon, Press TV, Gaza

"Hundreds of Gazans including senior officials from various Palestinian factions held a rally in Gaza to mark the Palestinian Land Day.

Land Day resonates with Palestinians everywhere as it was the first time Palestinians inside Israel stood together and successfully resisted the Israeli confiscation their land.

On the 30th of March 1976, six unarmed Palestinians were killed, hundreds wounded, and hundreds more jailed at a demonstration involving thousands of people from the Palestinian minority in Israel.

They had gathered to protest the Israeli government plans to expropriate Palestinian land.

Land Day is one of the most important anniversaries in the Palestinian calendar, sometimes referred to as the Palestinians' national day.

Like every year, Palestinians and advocates of Palestine around the world use this day to protest against the illegal occupation of the Palestinian land by Israel.

Land Day symbolizes the Palestinian struggle and determination to return to their original towns and villages.

35 years since the first time Land Day was celebrated, Palestinian land confiscation is now at its peak specially in the West Bank and Jerusalem Al-Quds.

For Palestinians Land Day has become a symbol of Palestinian resistance to colonization, occupation and years of Israel siege.

Palestinian prisoners conditions deteriorate in Israel

PressTV - Palestinian prisoners conditions deteriorate in Israel:

Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:19AM
Ashraf Shannon, Press TV, Gaza

"April 17th marks the Palestinian Prisoners Day, a day in commemoration of the Palestinians who are currently held in Israeli prisons. No less than 221 of them are children and 798 of them are serving life sentences.

Israel receives huge global publicity for Gilad Shalit, the sole Israeli prisoner that is currently held in Palestine, while the world remains largely silent about thousands of Palestinians that are incarcerated in Israel everyday. They and their families remain anonymous and lifeless in the Western media and political circles, despite the huge number of people affected.

Because Gazan prisoners are denied family visits, they also have restricted access to basic necessities in detention facilities - such as clothing and money. Lawyers are prohibited from transferring money to a prisoner and the Israeli Prisoners' Service insists that only relatives may transfer money, which is obviously impossible. One former Palestinian prisoner had this to say to Press TV:

Palestinian rights groups have long insisted that the prisoners are subjected to mistreatment and torture in Israeli detention facilities and that almost half of those arrested before the 1993 Oslo Agreement have been in Israeli jails for more than 20 years.

There are also some prisoners kept in solitary confinement. Palestinian sources also say some of them have been subjected to solitary confinement for more than five years.

Currently there are at least 8000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails according to the prisoner advocacy groups, many without being charged or facing trial, and in stark violation of the Geneva Convention.

BOYCOTT ISRAEL

The Boycott of Israeli goods is part of an international movement known as the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement. The main goals of the movement are to:

-Give real value to human rights by making Israel accountable for its crimes

- Reveal and highlight the complicity of the international community in supporting Israeli crimes that relentlessly violate human rights and international law

- End international law support for Israeli occupation and apartheid with the understanding that apartheid cannot be sustained without external assistance.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

- Support the boycott of all Israeli companies

- Inform yourself about the history of Israel's occupation of Palestine

- Spread the word (share on facebook, myspace or any social sites, 'like' this video or add to favorites)

Palestinians mark Land Day in Madrid

PressTV - Palestinians mark Land Day in Madrid:

Sun Mar 27, 2011 9:59PM
Sonia Labboun, Press TV, Madrid

"The Palestinian community in Madrid gathered to celebrate 'Land Day', commemorating annually the illegal Israeli seizure of Palestinian land on March 30, 1976.

The Palestinians summoned a general strike during that year, and began to mobilize and to protest against the confiscation of their lands. The protests resulted in the death of six young Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli army.

Every year, in Madrid, the Association of the Hispanic-Palestine Community and the Palestinian embassy call for the right to return of Palestinian refugees, an end to the Israeli occupation, and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

In a round table organized by the Palestinian Association, experts spoke about how the recent uprisings throughout the Arab World is giving determination to the Palestinians to continue their resistance against the occupation .

Observers say the 'Day of Land' organized by the Palestinian community in Madrid is an important initiative that needs full support in order to help Palestinians achieve their aspirations.
