Palestinians celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Gaza

PressTV - Palestinians celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Gaza:

Wed Aug 31, 2011 1:11AM GMT
Ashraf Shannon, Press TV, Gaza

As millions of Muslims around the world prepare to celebrate the joys of Eid al-Fitr, Palestinians in Gaza started to celebrate the joyous holiday which marks the end of the fasting holy month of Ramadan.

In the impoverished and blockaded coastal enclave most people headed to cheap make shift recreational parks with their families.

Only few well off Gazans were fortunate enough to enjoy the fancy places. According to international reports, about 75 percent of Gaza's 1.5 million people are suffering different levels of unemployment and poverty.

On the eve of Eid al-Fitr most Gazans were unable to buy new clothes for the holiday or the various traditional types of Turkish delights and chocolates which piled up in Gaza's stores, but only few people seemed to be interested as government employees haven't received their salaries.

The governments both in Gaza and the West Bank who pay salaries for 114,000 government employees in Gaza, suffer from a severe financial crisis.

Israel conducts on-and-off attacks on Gaza and Palestinians are left to accept living with the minimum of the basic needs that they require.

The feast of Eid al-Fitr also comes only a few days after a wave of cross-border violence in which Israel killed nearly thirty Palestinians and injured dozens more.

For Gazans the Eid al-Fitr celebrations will undoubtedly fall very short of being a celebration in full due to multiple problems facing them .

Leaked Video: Cruise Missile Hitting Pentagon on 9/11

PressTV - Video of Cruise missile hitting Pentagon on 9/11 leaked: Suppressed video released 10 years after 9/11 attacks in the United States clearly shows the Pentagon attack was a Cruise type missile, either a Tomahawk or Russian/Soviet Granit as described by former officer of the Soviet nuclear intelligence Dimitri Khalezov.

The little explosions which have been circled in the video clearly point out that "there is no huge jet" hammering into the Pentagon, Khalezov explains.

According to the official U.S. government narration, an American Airline Boeing 757 struck the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

The Boeing 757 is a mid-size, narrow-body twin-engine jet airliner manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Its dimension specification include: Wing span 38.05m (124ft 10in), length 47.32m (155ft 3in), height 13.56m (44ft 6in). Wing area 185.3m2 (1994sq ft).

The author of "The third truth about September 11" says every time he uploads such videos on the internet “my YouTube gets deleted or the hits go down.”

He describes a hole that appeared in a Pentagon wall right after the attack. "Look at that little hole. No way a jet [can] fit in there. Where's the wings? Where's the engines?”

The researcher says when the footage is observed frame by frame it shows that "the explosion happens before the 'jet' even appears.”

After 11 September 2001, Khalezov undertook extensive research on the collapse of the three World Trade Center Towers. The research is claimed to demonstrate that the three towers were demolished by three underground thermo-nuclear explosions.

Moreover, Khalezov claims that he knew about the in-built so-called "emergency nuclear demolitions scheme" for the Twin Towers as long ago as the 1980's, while a serviceman in the Soviet Special Control Service

planxtysumoud on Aug 30, 2011

Tonight, live fire and flares on the Bil'in side of the Apartheid Wall from occupation forces followed by a long and careful torchlit search of the ground for possible traces of shed blood shattered the relative peace that dropped on the village following the shifting of the Apartheid Wall further away from Bil'in last June. Over 20 soldiers in four jeeps were engaged in this operation.

Jeff Halper: "Every settlement is basically a military base"

Interview on Israel arming settlers
Turning Tables: 'Israel illegal occupier if Palestine recognized':

RussiaToday on Aug 30, 2011

The Israeli Defence Force is reportedly preparing settlers for the mass uprising of Palestinians, expected after the UN votes on a Palestinian statehood in September. The preparations include handing out tear gas and stun grenades to civilians.

Military resistance to Palestinians will only bring international sanctions on Israel after Palestine is recognised in September's vote. That's the view of Jeff Halper, a political activist and co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.

The Palestinian Town of Halhul and the Jewish-only settlement Karmei Tzur

Halhul and Settlements:

aicvideo on Aug 30, 2011

The Palestinian town of Halul counts 20,000 residents and sits in the southern portion of the occupied West Bank. Much of the village's lands have been annexed to build the nearby Jewish-only settlement of Karmei Tzur, and Palestinian farmers continue to have their work impeded by the presence of Israeli settlers and the Israeli military. Debate on PLO status after statehood bid

[Comment] Palestinian PA officials deny the claim and say the PLO will always represent the Palestinians, but do not tell us how it can be legally done after the declaration of State, or UN full membership. In other words they deny it without any legal basis. The fact that such officials had knowledge of the legal opinion and kept it under wraps dismisses their baseless argument and raises suspicion as to their intentions.

Debate on PLO status after statehood bid getting hot:

PressTVGlobalNews on Aug 30, 2011

A law opinion by an Oxford Law professor, Guy Goodwin Gill, was published to "identify problems potentially affecting the right of the Palestinian people to self determination and the manner by which that right can or may be exercised". The purpose of Professor Goodwin Gill's opinion is "simply to flag the manners requiring attention, if a substantial proportion of the people are not to be accidentally disenfranchised". Other legal experts, such as John Quigley, disagree with Goodwin Gill's opinion and state that Gills "opinion has no sound basis for not pursuing any of the initiatives contemplated for autumn 2011 at the United Nations. Most Palestinian legal experts have not chosen sides.

Ni'lin Weekly Demo 26 08 2011

Soldiers Attack Nonviolent Weekly Protest In Nil’in
Source: International Middle East Media Center (IMEMC)

Saturday August 27, 2011

Several injuries were reported in Nil’in village, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, as Israeli soldiers fired a barrage of gas bombs at the weekly nonviolent protest against the Wall and Settlements.

Local residents, accompanied by international and Israeli peace activists, held their weekly protest after the residents conducted Friday prayers near the Annexation Wall isolating them from their lands, and expressed solidarity with their brothers and sisters facing ongoing Israeli escalation and bombardment in the Gaza Strip.

The protesters carried Palestinian flags, and chanted in support of Gaza, and against the ongoing Israeli violations in Palestine.

As the protesters marched towards the gate of the Annexation Wall, troops fired gas bombs leading dozens of residents to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation.

‘Ahed Al Khawaja, a local activist in Ni’lin, stated that this protest is also meant to congratulate the Libyan people for their victories and revolution against Qaddafi, and to salute the Syrian people and their uprising against Assad.

Al Khawaja added that this protest also comes in solidarity with occupied Jerusalem and its native Palestinians, facing ongoing ethnic cleansing aiming at removing them from their homes and land.

Al-Walaja Demonstration August 27, 2011

Al-Walaja Demonstration August 27, 2011 - YouTube:

justicewheels on Aug 27, 2011

This is the demonstration on Saturday August 27, 2011 after the Israeli court ruling legitimizes the theft of Al-Walaja land. The Israeli apartheid soldiers tried to stop the demonstrators with an outdated military order in Hebrew dated August 7, 2011. After this act of deceit was caught, the soldiers quickly pruduced an updated military order. However, the demonstrators discovered that the new military order is still no good because the effective date is August 28, 2011, a day after the demonstration. Even though the Israeli apartheid soldiers have no right to stop the demonstration, the soldiers continued preventing the demonstrators to proceed. But demonstrators persisted and managed to advance toward the entrance of the illegal colony Har Gilo. Scores of Israeli human rights activists joined Palestinians and internationals at the demonstration.

Daily Life in Hebron: In Cahoots - Theft of Private Palestinian Land

Excerpt from B'Tselem on Israel's theft of Palestinian private land
During the course of the second intifada, Israel also surrounded settlements with rings of land closed to Palestinians, did nothing to eliminate the phenomenon of piratical closing of land, and even retroactively approved such piratical closing with a variety of means, among them the “special security area” plan.

Since its inception, the settlement enterprise has been characterized by the instrumental, cynical, and even criminal use of international law, local legislation, Israeli military orders, and Israeli law. This use has enabled the continuous theft of land from Palestinians in the West Bank. Among its failures, Israel has ignored international humanitarian law’s explicit prohibition on establishing settlements, which it has interpreted in its own way. Israel’s interpretation has been accepted by very few jurists and has been refuted by the international community.

The process employed in taking control of land breaches the basic principles of due procedure and natural justice. In many cases, Palestinian residents were unaware that their land was registered in the name of the state, and by the time they discovered this fact, it was too late to appeal. The burden of proof always rests with the Palestinian claiming ownership of the land. Even if he meets this burden, the land may still be registered in the name of the state on the grounds that it was transferred to the settlement "in good faith."

The legal cloak that Israel has used as a cover for the settlement enterprise is aimed at concealing the continuing theft of land in the West Bank. Its actions have created a legal system in the West Bank that lacks the basic values of compliance with the law and of justice; rather, the system is to intended to serve political purposes and allow the systematic infringement of Palestinians’ human rights.

Israel uses the seized lands to benefit the settlements while prohibiting the Palestinian public from using them in any way. This use is forbidden and illegal in itself, even if the process by which the lands were taken was fair and in accordance with international and Jordanian law. As the occupier in the Occupied Territories, Israel is not permitted to ignore the needs of an entire population and to use land intended for public needs solely to benefit the settlers.

The High Court of Justice has generally sanctioned the mechanism used to take control of land. In so doing, the Court has contributed to imbuing these procedures with a mask of legality. The Court initially accepted the state's argument that the settlements met urgent military needs and allowed the state to seize private land for this purpose. When the state began to declare land "state land," the Court refused to intervene to prevent this process.

Jewish Colonists Plant 200 Vines on Palestinian Land:

HebronVoices on Aug 27, 2011

Jewish colonists planted 200 grape vines on Abu Haikal land in Tel Rumeida, Hebron, Palestine on 11 Aug 2011. The operation was carefully planned. Large areas of grass were cleared 2 weeks beforehand. Police arrived too late to prevent the operation. The video shows colonists from the illegal colony across the road setting up a new irrigation system and digging holes. 15 colonists arrived in a co-ordinated operation and planted the vines in less than 10 minutes. Israeli soldiers made no move to stop them even though the land has been declared a Closed Military Zone.

Daily Life in Hebron: Lost Two Babies due to Closure of Shuhada Street

February 25,2011 marks 17 years since the Baruch Goldstein massacre in which a settler murdered 29 Palestinian while praying in a mosque in Hebron. As a response to this event, the army introduced a policy of separation in Hebron, which included the closure of Shuhada Street. To this day,the street remains closed to Palestinians, thus severely restricting their freedom of movement within their own city.

Palestinian residents can't have family and friends over without an Israeli military permit which is sometimes denied or takes ages to process. You will learn more from the video

This video is the second part of "Visiting Our Neighbours, produced by Hebron Voices
We published the first part earlier this month
It is an interview of a Palestinian woman living at Shohada Street in Hebron. She explains how she lost two babies as a result of the closure and delays of ambulance services due to restrictions on movements. She talks about her life in Hebron.
