"Hamas movement has officially welcomed the return of Fatah activists who escaped from Gaza during the infighting between Fatah and Hamas in June 2007.
Thousand of Fatah members fled to the West Bank, as well as, neighboring Egypt amid the clashes.
This new development was a direct result to last Sunday's talks in Cairo, between the two parties.
The formation of a transitional technocrat government and the nomination of its prime minister, are the major outstanding issues that haven't been resolved yet.
Fatah and Hamas have moved towards healing a deadly rift and address outstanding grievances.
Families of Fatah members who fled Gaza during the infighting called on both factions to speed up the implementation of the unity agreement.
Fatah officials in Gaza were optimistic about the latest meeting with Hamas.
Dr. Amal Hammad who is a member of Fatah revolutionary council says the return of the activists is a reassuring message to the Palestinian people.
Since 2007 Hamas has governed the blockaded Gaza Strip while Fatah has ruled the West Bank.
Gazans have welcomed the renewed commitment between the rival factions, but analysts believe that Palestinians were waiting to see concrete results
