Bet Ummar Prisoner's Day

aicvideo April 21, 2010Prisoners' Day pays tribute to the Palestinian prison population, which has a significant weight in Palestinian society, and events are held in their honour in cities, towns and villages throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territories. One of these towns is Beit Ummar, located near Bethlehem. People here known first-hand about detention by the Israeli authorities. The Israel military attempted to cancel the Beit Ummar Prisoners' Day Festival, which was initiated and fully organized by a local youth committee, but the Festival was held this past Friday, 16 April. There was music, theater, and speeches from a variety of elected and grassroots activists, all stressing the importance of this annual celebration.
