"Tensions are running high in the Gaza Strip, after an Israeli air strike hit a car carrying five members of the Islamic Jihad's military wing, the al-Quds brigades.
Two Islamic Jihad members were killed and three others were injured.
The strike comes just a day after the Islamic Jihad Movement along with other Palestinian factions said they were committed to calming tensions with Israel. However, the group says Palestinians always reserve the right to respond if one of its members is killed.
The Israeli military claim it targeted a group of Palestinians who had attempted to fire rockets.
This latest attack by Israel followed one of the bloodiest weeks since the Israeli war on Gaza.
Rights groups say there is a plot in the West of keeping silent towards what is happening in Gaza.
Many here believe Israel has dealt a heavy blow to the de facto truce by its latest attack.
Analysts say the surge in cross-border attacks over the last week has prompted fears of a would-be war on Gaza which is still recovering from a devastating 22-day war back in late 2008.

At least two Palestinians have been killed during a fresh Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medics say.
"Two Palestinians were killed and another wounded Sunday morning in an Israeli air raid on targets east of Jabaliya," Adham Abu Senmya, a spokesman for the Gaza emergency services, told AFP.
The attack came a day after several Palestinian factions, including the Hamas resistance movement, expressed commitment to a national agreement to restore calm with Tel Aviv.
After a week of deadly bombardments of the Gaza Strip, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tel Aviv was ready to act with "great force" against Palestinians.
Hamas announced on Saturday that it was committed like other factions to calm and that it would not give Israel "any pretext to launch another war against Gaza."
"Palestinian factions have discussed the recent surge in Israeli attacks on Gaza. They are all committed to remaining calm in order to prevent the occupation [Israeli] forces from committing any more crimes against humanity," said Ismail Radwan, a senior Hamas official.
The Islamic Jihad movement, however, said it would not allow Israel to use the Gaza Strip for "target practice."
"We will not accept the situation that Gaza is used for target practice by Israeli forces to show the military skills. We have stated it clearly that any attack will be met with strong response from the Islamic Jihad," a prominent Islamic Jihad official Khalid al-Batsh said.
The meeting between Palestinian factions came amid fears that Israel might wage another war against the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces have carried out large numbers of ground and air attacks on Gaza since the end of Operation Cast Lead against the Gaza Strip at the turn of 2009.
More than 1,400 Palestinians were killed during the three-week Israeli land, sea and air offensive in the impoverished coastal sliver. The offensive also inflicted USD 1.6 billion damage to the Gazan economy.
Israel laid an economic siege on the Gaza Strip in June 2007, after Hamas took control of the enclave.
The blockade has had a disastrous impact on the humanitarian and economic situation in the Gaza Strip.
Some 1.5 million people are being denied their basic rights, including freedom of movement, and their rights to appropriate living conditions, work, health and education.
Poverty and unemployment rates stand at approximately 80 percent and 60 percent, respectively, in the Gaza Strip.

"Palestinian factions came together Saturday night following a call by Hamas for an urgent meeting to discuss the latest Israeli escalation in attacks on Gaza Strip.
On March 16th an Israeli air strike killed two Hamas police officers--- this was followed by a string of attacks against Gaza civilians killing at least 10 and wounding dozens.
Following their meeting a senior official from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) announced that Palestinian factions are committed to calming tensions if Israel reciprocates.
Hamas also said the factions confirmed their commitment to not give Israel 'any pretext for attacking'.
The Islamic Jihad movement said it would not allow Israel to use the Gaza Strip for target practice.
The meeting was held amid fears in Gaza of another war similar to Operation Cast Lead which started in late 2008 and stretched into early 2009
The meeting centered around finding ways to avoid new confrontations with Israel following the bloodiest week since Israel ended its war on Gaza in 2009. Now it remains to bee seen if the de facto truce will hold.

"Breaking and lifting the Gaza siege.
That is the goal of one delegation made up of 14 Egyptians and 1 American who travelled from Cairo to the Gaza border. They brought with them 10 tonnes of cement with the aim of supplying it to the people of Gaza.
Thousands of Gazans have been made homeless due to Israeli bombing, and they cant rebuild their homes because cement and building material has been prevented from entering the strip under Israel's siege. But the Egyptian activists here want to bring an end to that. These cement bags are just the beginning.
The delegation is comprised of activists, engineers and lawyers who wish to travel to Gaza and assess the situation there. They want to see what they can do to help rebuild the infrastructure in Gaza.
The Egyptian authorities delayed the decision to accept or deny the cement from going through, but the delegation did not go away. They stepped up the pressure by camping outside the border, and were adamant on staying for however long it takes.
Gaza has been under an Israeli siege since 2007.The siege that has restricted access to food, water, medicine and other necessities is causing serious problems for the people in the coastal enclave.

"A string of Israeli military strikes on the Gaza Strip that began on Tuesday has left at least 10 people dead, and over 50 wounded. The Israeli attacks began with the unprovoked killing of two Hamas security personnel on March 16th.
Wednesday night, following artillery shelling of a residential neighborhood in the eastern part of Gaza Strip, crowds gathered outside Alshifa hospital where the injured and dead were taken. Families mourn their loved ones amid fears of continued attacks.
A day of mourning was declared in Gaza on Wednesday. People packed into the Mosques praying for the souls of those killed. Thousands joined a collective funeral procession that carried the victims to their final resting place. A mother, says her final goodbyes, and a sister cry's over her loss.
At the home of Adham harazeen, mourners gather to console the family. The 23 year old died in an Israeli missile strike on Wednesday night. His mother attempted to talk, but was unable to find word. His grandmother directs her words to Adham:
While Gazans struggle to come to terms with the recent violence, Israel's opposition leader Tzipi Livni announced that the time had come for a fresh military campaign against Gaza.
The UN has condemned the attacks, and Egypt has warned Israel against military action in Gaza
Israel's aggression towards Palestinians has long been a source of anger in the Arab world. Regional developments that have led to the weakening or ousting of Tel Aviv's key allies in the Arab world are paving the way for a new Middle East order. And this will make it hard for Israel to pursue its current policies toward the Gaza Strip.

Women United in the Intifada is the third of a series of events initiated by Sons of Malcolm and friends which salutes the 10th anniversary of the eruption of the Second/Al-Aqsa Intifada in September 2000.
The first in this series was on October 2nd with 300 people in attendance discussing Solidarity and Internationalism with the strategic approach of 'we will not liberate Palestine, Palestine is liberating us'. The second in the series was on November 6 at the Venezuelan Embassy entitled 'Outbreak of the Intifada: Turning back the Empire', which explored how the Intifada was the first big offensive which has led to the on-going demise of empire. This meeting received a a lot of opposition from the zionists in their press as this event represented the growing unity of anti-imperialist and Third Worldist forces in the midst of the empire: London. Despite the protests of the zionists, the meeting was a great success with 100 people in attendance.
This third event, which is jointly organised by a network of media and cultural activists (including Team Fight The Oppression (Team FTO), Lizzie's Liberation, Straight Talk, Beat Knowledge and other individuals and groups) entitled Women United in the Intifada, seeks to learn, explore and give full respect to all the female strugglers and martyrs in the Intifada. The main approach to this question is stressing that unity is paramount between those from different political factions, traditions and outlooks; that the Intifada showed Palestinian women and girls united, and that unity was one of the primary strengths of the Intifada.

"Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza from various political factions took to the streets and marched towards the Palestinian Legislative Council demanding an end internal Palestinian division.
Demonstrators carried only Palestinian flags and chanted slogans, calling for Palestinian unity and an end to the current split between Hamas and Fatah.
Protestors called on both Fatah and Hamas to bury their differences and work toward reconciliation.
The rally was boycotted by the Fatah movement and the left-wing People's Party.
Hamas's interior ministry says that the rally shows that Hamas respects the freedom of speech.
There have been various efforts to narrow the division between the Fatah and Hamas factions that has undermined the Palestinian cause. But, to date, no solid compromise has been achieved.
Everyone in Gaza hopes Palestinians will unite and stand together as one nation, in the face of growing external threats.
Today's event came in light of the growing demand by all Palestinian people to end the political divisions. Palestinian factions in Gaza are also calling for reconciliation between the political groups and a national unity government.

Absent from the meeting, however, were the representatives of Fatah movement.
The need to restructure the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) was highlighted during the meeting.
The participants also agreed to organize a rally on Friday to show solidarity among all Palestinian factions, as well as their desire for reconciliation and a national unity government.
Fatah says nothing constructive can possibly come out of the Gaza meeting, and instead has called on the Palestinian people to take to the streets and demand an end to the political division.
The two largest Palestinian factions split in June 2007, about 18 months after Hamas won Palestinian parliamentary elections in 2006. In the ensuing clashes between the two parties, Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip and pushed the Fatah movement out of the enclave.
The inter-Palestinian rivalry is a major obstacle hampering Israeli-Palestinian Authority talks. Hamas, which has refused to recognize Israel, has denounced the direct negotiations between Israel and the PA. The talks, which resumed in early September after an almost two-year hiatus, came to a halt over the issue of ongoing Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank.

Tuesday 8 March marks the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day. Women across the world will be mobilising and marching in celebration and protest, championing their freedom of expression and campaigning for further change. Al-Haq takes this opportunity to remind the rest of the world that in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) the struggle for the fundamental human rights of Palestinian women is held hostage to a belligerent and unrelenting occupation.
In commemoration of International Women's Day, the United Nations theme this year is 'Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women.' Throughout the OPT, women's access to educational institutions, places of employment and healthcare clinics is severely impeded by restrictions on Palestinians' right to freedom of movement. While the repressive and discriminatory policies exercised by Israel against the free movement of Palestinians have had a devastating effect on the entire population, the disproportionate impact on Palestinian women, who are denied the most basic economic and social rights guaranteed to them by international law, cannot be overstated.
The Annexation Wall, which appropriates lands, disconnects communities, and restricts access to medical care, schools, and workplaces, is only one of numerous pernicious policies that violate Palestinians' right to freedom of movement. Travel time and costs are greatly multiplied by the Wall, its associated permit regime and over 500 other obstacles to free movement in the OPT, including checkpoints and road blocks. The restrictions imposed by Israel have a gender specific impact and present particular risks for, amongst others, expectant mothers, female students and workers, resulting in the denial of their right to health, education, decent work and an adequate standard of living. The socio-economic instability that these violations have wrought in the OPT - perhaps most notable in the Gaza Strip where severe deprivation is aggravated by the continuing policy of closure - coupled with the loss of many male members of Palestinian society to Israeli detention or violence, has contributed to the stresses of family life and created conditions rife for domestic violence.
Palestinian women are also disproportionately affected by Israeli policies and laws which, through a complex system of permits and administrative bureaucracy, prevent Palestinians with different residency from living together as a family. Palestinians with West Bank identification cards are prevented from residing with their family in occupied East Jerusalem, while Palestinians from the Gaza Strip are prohibited from joining a spouse in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. In addition, arbitrary nationality laws deny Palestinian family members with a foreign passport entry at Israeli-controlled borders. Israel's denial of family reunification places on many women the burden of raising children in the absence of a father, with the consequent negative economic and financial impact that this brings.

"The union of commercial transportation drivers went on strike in front of the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing in southern Gaza.
The union is threatening to shutdown the Kerem Shalom crossing in protest over the closure of another crossing. Israel authorities permanently closed the Karni crossing, leaving Kerem Shalom as the only commercial crossing open to transport goods into the coastal enclave.
Before the Hamas movement won parliamentary elections in 2006 in Gaza, there were five crossings into the territory. Israel has since closed the other crossings to put pressure on Hamas.
The Karni crossing had the largest capacity and was the major entry point for goods before being closed. Gazans complain that the Kerem Shalom crossing is not large enough to provide enough goods for the whole population.
In addition, drivers are angry over working conditions at the Kerem Shalom crossing.
The Israeli based Legal Center for freedom of Movement said last week that closing the Karni Crossing will further restrict the entry of necessary tools and materials and will therefore hamper the ability of Palestinian residents of Gaza to engage in dignified, productive work.
According to the Al-Meezan center for human rights, with this latest move Israel is tightening the suffocating siege on the strip and this will worsen the already disastrous humanitarian situation.
Rights groups maintain that such moves prove Israel has been misleading the world with claims it has eased the Gaza blockade which is a violation of international law.

Gaza fishermen, are among the most hardly hit and the livelihood of many families are in danger as they depend directly on the fishing industry. Each of these poor fishermen has a story of their own to tell.
Mohammad Al-Bardaweel was released last week after spending 5 years in Israeli jails; he was abducted by the Israeli navy in May 2006 while fishing off the seashore of Khanyounis in southern Gaza. Mohammad was subjected to torture and medical negligence behind bars, as a result of which he lost his eye.
Gaza fishermen have learned to brave dangerous waters, but can't go too deep into the Mediterranean as the strict Israeli naval blockade is still in place.
The ban on entering deep waters has denied fishermen access to areas abundant with fish. This is the scene in Gaza harbor, 10s of fishing boats are anchored in the small port, most of which are left broken since their spare parts are hard to find under the siege.
There are about 3700 fishermen in the Gaza strip, and about 40,000 people depend on the fishing industry. The blockade has restricted access to the sea to 3 nautical miles from the shore and fishermen say this narrow stretch of water is almost fished out.
Under the so-called 1993 Oslo Accords, Israel retained military control of Gaza's territorial waters and agreed to allow fishing boats to sail into the Mediterranean for up to 20 nautical miles, but that is just in theory.
According to the fishermen syndicate, at least seven fishermen have been killed, and about 200 injured in addition to 10's abducted since the outbreak of Al-Aqsa intifada in the year 2000.
Shooting at Gazan fishermen by the Israeli navy has become a recurring news item, but what is abnormal is the great defiance and risk these fishermen are willing to take and endure just to feed their children and support their families.
People here say lack of firm response on the part of the international community has emboldened Israel to continue its actions.

The ban on entering deep waters has denied fishermen access to areas abundant with fish. This is the scene in Gaza harbor, 10s of fishing boats are anchored in the small port, most of which are left broken since their spare parts are hard to find under the siege.
There are about 3700 fishermen in the Gaza strip, and about 40,000 people depend on the fishing industry. The blockade has restricted access to the sea to 3 nautical miles from the shore and fishermen say this narrow stretch of water is almost fished out.
Under the so-called 1993 Oslo Accords, Israel retained military control of Gaza's territorial waters and agreed to allow fishing boats to sail into the Mediterranean for up to 20 nautical miles, but that is just in theory.
According to the fishermen syndicate, at least seven fishermen have been killed, and about 200 injured in addition to 10's abducted since the outbreak of Al-Aqsa intifada in the year 2000.
Shooting at Gazan fishermen by the Israeli navy has become a recurring news item, but what is abnormal is the great defiance and risk these fishermen are willing to take and endure just to feed their children and support their families.
People here say lack of firm response on the part of the international community has emboldened Israel to continue its actions.

Carrying Palestinian flags and placards saying yes to dialogue and unity they marched through Gaza streets.
The protestors then converged on the Palestinian legislative council where they shouted slogans for unity and called for an end to the Israeli blockade.
Hamas says reconciliation is a central issue for Palestinians, as the liberation of the entire land of Palestine depends very much on unity between the West Bank and Gaza.
Elected officaila called for the restructuring of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as a basis for Palestinian national reconciliation.
Protestors, young and old, from all walks of life called on both Fatah and Hamas to bury their differences and work toward reconciliation.
As evidenced by this huge rally, Palestinians in Gaza believe unity is indispensable, and no matter how serious the divisions between different factions may seem, there is a common ideal of a free Palestine that serves to unite all Palestinians.
Hamas has called for national reconciliation and the partnership of all the political factions. The rift between Hamas and Fatah started in 2007 and all reconciliation efforts have failed so far.
