"With a 5 thousand population made up of settlers, the Itimar settlement has been expanded on Palestinian lands. Tel Aviv claims that Israeli officials have decided to confiscate Palestinian lands for expanding the settlement, which is deemed illegal according to international laws and resolutions.

The decision to expand Itimar settlement was made by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu after 4 Itimar settlers were allegedly killed by an unknown group several months ago.

Tel Aviv has confirmed the confiscation of vast areas of Palestinian lands south of Bethlehem in order to expand the settlement of Ifrat

Since Netanyahu was voted into office as Prime Minister, the number of settlement units constructed in the West Bank increased fourfold, as the systematic policy of land confiscation continues to be one the main obstacle for peace in the region.

The expansions of already existing settlements as well as the construction of new settlements were the reasons behind failed talks between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government. The Palestinian Authority insists that they will not hold any talks until settlement activities come to a full stop.
