A discussion with Huwaida Arraf (Nov 9)

Huwaida Arraf, a Palestinian-American activist, is the co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and chairperson of the Free Gaza Movement.

ISM advocates grassroots nonviolent resistance as a way to end the Israeli occupation and the Free Gaza Movement is most notable for organizing humanitarian aid ships to the blockaded Gaza Strip.

In addition to speaking about her activism in nonviolent resistance to occupation, Huwaida Arraf will also share her experiences on the Freedom Flotilla that was raided by Israeli commandos last May. She was aboard the Challenger 1, which was the smallest boat in the flotilla that included the Mavi Marmara.

A fact-finding mission by the United Nations found that “a series of violations of international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law, were committed by the Israeli forces” during the attack on the civilian flotilla. The U.N. report also found that at least 6 of the casualties were killed in “extra-legal, arbitrary and summary executions” by the Israeli Defense Force.

Following her talk, there will be an audience Q/A session.

Event held on November 9th at SCOB 210, ASU tempe campus.
