Israel's freeze of Palestinian funds is blackmail and piracy

Israel freezes $89 million of Palestinian funds

Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz announced on Army Radio today that all tax funds and custom fees managed under the Oslo Accords' structure for Palestinian use by Israel would be frozen.
"This is not Israeli money - it's Palestinian money," said Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestine National Initiative. "This is an act of piracy."
As reported by Haaretz, Steinitz said the financial freeze resulted from the recent reconciliation of Fateh with Hamas - a considered terrorist organization by Israel and the United States. President Benjamin Netanyahu reacted vehemently to the Palestinian unification and with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman vowed to attack the new, yet unformed, Palestinian coalition.
"This is an aggressive act that shows Israel is against not only Palestinian unity but Palestinian democracy," said Dr. Barghouthi said. "Israel is trying to dictate how the Palestinians should run their internal affairs.
