"Palestinians of East Jerusalem al-Quds are facing a daily struggle to hold on to their residency as according to the Jerusalem center, in 2010 alone, around 191 Palestinians were stripped of their Jerusalem/Al-Quds IDs by Israel.

The 250,000 Palestinians with Israeli-issued East Jerusalem/Al-Quds identity cards have the same legal status as people who immigrated to Israel legally, but are not entitled to citizenship. Because of their status as non-citizen residents, Palestinians of East Jerusalem al-Quds can easily lose their ID cards. Simply leaving for five years, or obtaining residency or citizenship in another country can endanger residency right in East Jerusalem/Al-Quds

Palestinians of East Jerusalem al-Quds have blue identity cards and those living in the West Bank and Gaza strip hold green identity card.

Without a Blue identity card, Palestinians are not allowed to enter Jerusalem/Al-Qids. The Kalandia checkpoint behind me is one of the most strict checkpoints in the Palestinian occupied territory. Every car that passes, every person who waits in line, must present a Blue ID in order to enter Jerusalem, al-Quds.

Palestinian say entering East Jerusalem will become more difficult in the coming future as Israel is expected to revoke large numbers of Blue IDs.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem/Al-Quds along with the rest of the West Bank in 1967, and annexed a large area of the West Bank. Palestinians in the annexed territory refused Israeli citizenship. Instead, Israeli granted them residency IDs. Palestinians of East Jerusalem al-Quds say they will continue to live there, with or without their Blue ID, as it is their right to reside on that land that they believe belongs to the capital of their future state.
