Israeli Occupation Soldier At PITT:

"joeskillet | February 01, 2011

On Monday January 31, 2011, the Pittsburgh Israel Public Affairs Committee hosted the event, 'Our Soldiers Speak.' The event was promoted as 'free and open to the public' online, on the reservations request thru the Univ. of Pittsburgh, and on the signs posted throughout the student union.

Students for Justice in Palestine, the Pittsburgh Palestine Solidarity Committee, and other members of the community came to this free and open to the public engagement, only to be met by the leaders of PIPAC quickly changing their tone and stating that it was a closed event, only for folks with student IDs, which meant that many of those coming from the public with views that run contrary to the Israeli policy line were left out in the cold--literally!

The PIPAC event was aimed at whitewashing Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, and justifying the illegal 43-year Occupation of Palestine. In response, SJP decided to follow the lead of many other solidarity organizations and stage a principled, silent walk out to demonstrate Pitt students' dedication to human rights and international law.
