"United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon opened up the committee meeting on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People by slamming all illegal Israeli activity in occupied lands -- condemning settlement activities including those in East Jerusalem al-Quds.
The committee -- which is comprised of about fifty countries -- half full members and half observers -- is the only one of its kind at the UN. It focuses specifically on the Palestinian peoples' right to a state -- the right to international independence -- self determination and the right of the return of Palestinian refugees.
The committee's new chairman - Abdou Salam Diallo of Senegal -- read a laundry list of recent Israeli offenses.
The year is shaping up well for the Palestinian cause -- with a bid for actual statehood predicted by many in the enar future. The committee visits world capitals in order to enlist support for Palestinian rights -- and then returns to the UN to include its findings in its resolutions. The Secretary of the Committee says that some Israelis do occasionally take part.
Palestinian Observer Monsour thanked Uraguay -- Algeria and Morocco in advance for agreeing to host regional conferences on Palestinian rights in the coming months.
He says that this year is shaping up to be a huge one for the Palestinian people -- adding that he's grateful for the committee's work on Palestine's behalf.
