"Israeli archaeologists have finished work on a tunnel, which will enable visitors to cross under the walls of Jerusalem al-Quds Old City, near the Al Aqsa mosque compound.

The tunnel, which was uncovered during excavations carried out underneath Palestinian homes, was originally built as a drainage channel during the Second Temple period.

There are many tunnels like the one we just saw in the neighborhood of Silwan just a short distance from Al Aqsa Mosque. But what experts believe is that the Israeli archaeology authority is trying to link these tunnels together in order to reach the highly sensitive area of the western wall and from there dig further to Al Aqsa Mosque.

Moreover experts believe that the real aim of the Israel archaeology authority is to distort the history of the city by claiming that these archaeological findings are in fact Jewish.
Residents of Silwan are concerned that Israelis are planning to link together a number of illegally confiscated locations in their neighborhood to create a contiguous Jewish area that will contain a Jewish archaeological park, homes for Jewish settlers, and a tourist center at the so called City of David, to which the tunnel already leads.

Israeli officials and settlers repeatedly tried to deny us entry of a number of locations that were open for tourists and Jewish settlers. Our requests for an interview were also declined.
Palestinians in east Jerusalem al-Quds are confronted daily with eviction orders, confiscations, and house demolitions by the Israeli authorities under various excuses.

In the wake of the leaked documents by Al Ajazeera TV that pertains to the negotiations, many Palestinians in east Jerusalem al-Quds feel abandoned by the Palestinian Authority, but are still resolved to resist the Israeli occupation.
