On March 16, 2003, 23 year old Rachel Corrie, an Evergreen college student from Olympia, Washington, was crushed to death by a U.S.-made, Israeli Defense Force armored Caterpillar bulldozer while attempting to block demolition of the home of a Palestinian doctor and his family in Rafah, Gaza in occupied Palestine. Rachel was a member of the International Solidarity Movement, and seven ISM eyewitnesses witnessed the killing, including photographs. Her parents and sister established the Rachel Corrie Foundation (www.rachelcorriefoundation.org) in her memory, and failing to secure voluntary accountability from the Israeli goverment, filed a civil lawsuit against Israel in March 2005. This suit finally came to trial in Haifa District Court in Israel ficve years later on March 10, 2010, and was ongoing at the time of this video. To commemorate the life, principles and goals of Rachel, the Al-Nakba Awareness Project sponsored a slide show and talk by Peter Chabarek on the continuing non-violent Palestinian resistance for which Rachel gave her life. Peter provided a rich and meticulously detailed account of his 13-day visit to the West Bank in Oct-Nov 2009 under the auspices of Global Exchange, a San Francisco-based human rights organization.
