Establishment media love to keep issues cleanly split. Environment and health over here; war and drought over there. But reality's much more integrated. Take this news from The International Committee of the Red Cross. The people of Gaza's access to a safe supply of drinking water could cease at any time says the ICRC and the World Health Organization (WHO) says outbreaks of a variety of diseases could be triggered as a consequence. The warnings follow a United Nations report last week that Gaza's underground water system is in danger of collapse after last winters' bombardment and years of overuse and contamination." Already the WHO's seen an increase in people suffering kidney disease from dirty water. And that situation's likely to worsen. Along with the rest of the strip's infrastructure Gaza's sole underwater aquifer sustained major damage - during Israel's bombardment-- and cost of repair is estimated at 6 million dollars -- just for the water -- the sole source of water for the strip's 1.5 million people. Not so ironically, Israel's code name for the winter bombing was Operation Cast Lead. Now lead is in short supply, for repairing of pipes, but heavy metals, like other toxins, are seeping into the only water supply . Only 5-10 percent of the water now is judged fit for human consumption. Think you can save the planet stop global warming, and not stop war? Think again. There's no such thing as an environmentally healthy bombing. Not in Gaza, nor in Iraq, nor in Afghanistan.
