Source: IMEMC
Monday April 19, 2010 12:05

The family of detainee Raed Abu Hammad, from Al Ezariyya town in east Jerusalem, demanded a full investigation into the death of their son who died last Friday at an Israeli detention facility.

Following his death, Israel moved the body to a forensic center in Tel Aviv but, so far, did not release the findings.

His family said that he was not sick and that he was an athlete and a Karate trainer holding a black belt.

The family demanded a thorough investigation to reveal the real causes of his death.
The Arabs48 news website reported that Hammad was buried on Sunday, and that thousands of Palestinians, including Minister of Detainees, Isa Qaraqe’, participated in the funeral.

They chanted slogans against the ongoing Israeli violations against the detainees, and the illegal Israeli polices of torture in addition to depriving the detainees from their rights to receive proper medical care.

Hammad was kidnapped by the Israeli army on February, 26, 2004, and was accused of stabbing an Israeli soldier. He was sentenced to 10 years and additional 5 years on parole.

Shaheed Basam abu Rahma's funeral in Bil'in 17 4 09

Shaheed Basam abu Rahma's funeral in Bil'in 17 4 09:

"This Friday some 15 Israelis and 15 internationals joined a few dozen Palestinians in their weekly demo in Bil'in. The demonstration's theme was Palestinian prisoners' day, and the demo was headed by people carrying posters demanding the release of Palestinians held by the Israeli occupation forces. As usual, upon reaching the fence the demo was met with stun and gas grenades. The strong wind blew in the direction of the demonstrators and spread the gas among them, so only a small group of demonstrators managed to stay close to the fence. This, however, only encouraged the soldiers to keep shooting relatively large amounts of gas and other ammunition. The first victim was a French demonstrator superficially wounded in her face by a rebound shrapnel. Shortly after, a soldier shot an extended range gas projectile from a few meters away directly at Bassem Abu Rahme who was standing at the fence, knocked him over, left a gaping hole in the middle of his torso, and put him into respiratory distress and shock. Since no ambulance was at the scene, Bassem (a.k.a. Phil, aged 30) was evacuated in a private car toward Ramallah. Some demonstrators stayed by the fence for a while, but as the last of them left the scene, the news of Bassem's death reached the village."

Report: Israel responsible for Sudan air strike in January
Source: IMEMC News
Date: Thursday, March 26, 2009 06:56

A new report by the American tv network CBS has revealed that Israeli forces carried out an air strike in Sudan in January, which inside sources say targeted an arms shipment bound for the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

Israeli authorities would not comment on the report, which claimed that the Israeli airforce bombed a convoy of trucks in Sudan, killing 39 Sudanese, Eritrean and Ethiopian people in the midst of the Israeli invasion of Gaza in January.

The CBS report claimed that an Egyptian source had told the network that the trucks carried weapons bound for the Gaza Strip.

Palestinians fighting the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip have very few weapons with which to fight the fourth-largest army in the world. While Israeli forces are armed with US-supplied tanks, F-16 fighter jets, missiles, drones, cluster bombs, surface-to-surface missiles, air-to-surface missiles and white phosphorus, Palestinian fighters are armed only with stones, the occasional World-War II-era Russian rifle, and crude homemade shells made of metal pipes and dynamite. Israeli authorities have made allegations in the past that the Palestinian resistance was receiving weapons from Iran, but no evidence was found to back that claim.

Now, according to CBS News network, the Israeli airforce has carried out a unilateral airstrike in Sudan, an act which considered a declaration of war under international law, based on information that the arms in question were on their way to the Hamas resistance movement in Gaza.

Hamas officials have come under fire recently for publicly voicing support for Sudan's controversial president Omar Bashir, who has been charged by the International Criminal Court with crimes against humanity.
